Example page
Description
Although there is typically only one detail result page,
there can be several.
The result page is divided into several sections:
- A summary of the records selected for display.
- The number of data records found.
- A series of links providing a short cut to previous pages in the search process.
At this stage there are typically two links.
- Refine Search that will take you back to the Search Form.
- Search Results that will return to the list of name index results.
- The navigation bar provides links to all the result pages from the search
accompanied, where appropriate, by left and right arrows to take you to previous
and following pages.
Normally a maximum of 30 results appear on each page, but this can be changed
using the drop-down list and clicking on the double-chevron.
Clicking on the table view provides a tabular alternative to the text (narrative)
view.
A similar navigation bar appears at the bottom of the page if there are several
results to display.
- Each database record forms a separate numbered paragraph.
- In this text or narrative view, the fields from each record are displayed in bold text surrounded by any necessary explanation.
- A dash character '–' means there is no information for that field.
- A link will indicate if the database links a record to other records,
such as other members of a census household, and show you the applicable fee.
Click on the group link to pay to see the
additional records.
- Further links will appear if there are any images attached to this database record.
These links will show the number of images and the applicable fee.
- A line below the results will tell you how much you were charged to view
the results and when you were charged.
- Also below the results are links into the web page describing the database
to tell you more about the data records.
- Finally, there is a copyright statement identifying the copyright holder,
typically the provider of the database.
Notes
This text format is normally preferred if you want to print the entry information.
Using the view as table link will reformat the
information onto one page with a record in each row.
Each field will be in a separate column headed by the field name and
a group column will appear at the end
if this facility can be used.
If you need an explanation of any codes shown in the information,
click on the database name at the top of the page or
the links at the bottom of the page to refer to the database description page.
If the result provides transcribed details rather than basic index information,
it may be too wide in table form to print on A4 paper,
and it is then best to view the page in text format.
If you are using Internet Explorer,
you may need to adjust both the left hand and right hand margins to 10mm each
(File/Page setup).
You can then check (File/Print Preview) that it will fit correctly on your page.
Alternatively, with Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator,
you may be able to reduce the magnification used by your printer
to less than 100% (File/Print/Properties),
though the output may not be quite as legible.
