Wiltshire Removal Orders
IntroductionRemoval Orders in the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office are indexed there by parish and the name of one person, usually the head of a household, on the document. This database contains records for all named persons so the order may be found using the name of a spouse or child as well as that of the head. The orders in the collection include persons arriving in a parish as well as those being sent away. Some of the orders are annotated with notes on examinations which modified the order, many delaying the removal because of illness or while a woman was pregnant. CoverageThis collection contains 20,593 names extracted from 7,985 documents held in the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office. The earliest document was dated 1670 and the last 1890. CheckingThis data has been checked. GroupingThe index is grouped to allow display of all names on a document. Abbreviations and CodesThe Chapman County codes have been used.
