This database includes information about 20,202 marriages that took place in 33 parishes in the Wakefield area of Yorkshire between 1679 and 1992.

Please note: This dataset includes the 1813 - 1837 Marriage Index and Thornes Christ Church and Thornes St. James data, both of which were previously available as separate datasets, with new data

The following information is recorded for each marriage:

  • Date of Marriage
  • Surname of Groom
  • Forename of Groom and if a Widower (W)
  • Age of Groom - (Fa) Full Age, (M) Minor
  • Residence of Groom
  • Occupation of Groom
  • Name and Occupation of Groom's Father
  • Surname of Bride
  • Forename of Bride and if a Widow (W)
  • Age of Bride - (Fa) Full Age, (M) Minor
  • Residence of Bride
  • Occupation of Bride
  • Name and Occupation of Bride's Father
  • Church (or Chapel) where marriage took place
  • Soc. Ref. Reference of Wakefield and D. FHS Publication.
  • Archive Ref. Reference in West Yorks Archives (or NA Film Ref. for Chapels)
