Transcription and conventions used
This database includes information about tithe awards that took place in the Wakefield district.
The information on this database was transcribed and edited by:
the late Kenneth Smith Bartlett, Local Historian, of Horbury, Nr Wakefield, West Yorks.
Who kindly granted a licence to use this material to the Wakefield & District Family History Society. This licence has been continued by Kenneth's estate.
The original Tithe award documents are held at The National Archives in London (formerly the Public Record Office)
The following information is recorded for each tithe award:
- The year of the tithe award.
- The name of the place and county.
- The number of the plot.
- The name of the owner (indexed).
- The name of the tenant (indexed).
- Description of the plot.
- How the plot is being used (culture).
- The size of the plot in Acres, Roods and Perches.

There is currently no alternative form of publication for these Tithe records. The Wakefield and District FHS can provide their Marriage Indexes and 1851 Census (also available on this service) in booklet form. These can be purchased by mail order from the Society.
