Transcription and conventions used
This census database records 50,474 individuals from the 1841 Census Returns for Wakefield.
The data records include:
- Place where enumerated.
- Surname - as enumerated.
- Forenames - as enumerated.
- Abode.
- Age* - Male.
- Age* - Female.
- Occupation.
- Born in Yorkshire Y=Yes, N=No.
- Reel number.
- Enumeration District.
- Enumeration Schedule Number (or Folio).
- Page number
- Household number
*AGE
In the 1841 Census the enumerator was supposed to record the ages of adults over the age of 15 to the next multiple of 5 below the actual age. Many enumerators could not manage the arithmetic of this. Some put the next multiple of 5 above the actual age and some just recorded the age as given.
e.g. an age of 49 should have been recorded as 45, but may have been recorded as 50 or 49.
For children, the letter d indicates days; w - weeks and m - months.
