Transcription and conventions used

The transcription consists of 25,317 entries between 1536-1902 and covering 32 out of approximately 500 parishes of the County of Suffolk. Other societies, including the Felixstowe FHS, cover other parts of the County.

Note: There is a second Suffolk Marriage index on FamilyHistoryOnline that covers most of the Suffolk parishes but is limited to the period 1813-1837.

This index includes the following fields - there may be more information in the original record:-

  • Groom - Name of bridegroom with surname (in CAPITALS).
  • Groom status - whether the groom is single (s or sm) or a widower (wdr).
  • Groom parish - where the groom came from (otp = of this parish).
  • Bride - Name of bride with surname (in CAPITALS).
  • Bride status - whether the bride is single (s or sw) or a widow (wd).
  • Bride parish - where the bride came from (otp = of this parish).
  • Date - Day, month and year in separate fields.
  • Parish - where the marriage took place.
