Rugby District Parish Registers

Transcription and conventions used

The Parish Registers of St Peters Church Dunchurch were originally transcribed by several different people (see acknowledgments) and are currently the only entries in this database.

The information recorded from each register varies according to the event and the period. Prior to 1812 (1754 for marriages) the clerk had almost complete discretion as to what was recorded.

Due to the complexities of these datasets, one description field is generally used to show the information “As Written” though this has been created artificially for some years in the middle of the range. In all cases all the information from the register entry should be available to you. The other fields shown have been used to index the data and include the date, forenames and surnames of the principal parties (e.g. bride and groom for marriages). Neither marriage witnesses nor officiating ministers have been indexed.

Entries in square brackets [ ] have been made by the transcribers or checkers to clarify or give additional information.

Note: From 1727 onwards marriages may appear in both the general Parish Register and the Marriage Register creating apparent duplicate records. This is important because in some cases the record only appears in one register.

Note: The baptisms and burials of infants are often recorded in a single entry. The identical entry will then appear in both baptism and burial data.
