Transcription and conventions used

This transcription records the admission of 29,251 pupils into about ten schools (18 registers). A number of entries from the Second World War (1939-45) show the admission of evacuee children as pupils and this can usually be deduced by the name of the previous school and the name of the guardian.

The following information has been recorded:

  • School Register showing years covered
  • Forenames and Surname of pupil
  • Name of Father or other Guardian
  • Name of previous school, if any – or father's occupation in some cases.
  • Date of birth as day month and year
  • Address where living
