Transcription and conventions used

This database records 116,495 baptisms from 76 parishes and other places in the county of Cambridgeshire.

The data records include:

  • Date of marriage.
  • Forenames and surname of groom.
  • Groom's age, condition (single, widowed), occupation and residence, where given.
  • Forenames and surname of bride.
  • Bride's age, condition (single, widowed), occupation and residence, where given.
  • Whether the marriage took place by licence, rather than being preceded publication of banns.
  • Groom's father's name and occupation, when given.
  • Bride's father's name and occupation, when given.
  • Names of up to four witnesses, when given.
  • Any additional notes.
  • Place and County (Chapman code) where marriage took place.

A lower change is made for marriages prior to 1837 to reflect that there is likely to be less information.

BT is a reference to the Bishop's transcript which may offer slightly different information to that in the registers.

Widow and Widower are typically abbreviated to 'wid'.

Chapman County Codes have been used for the county where born e.g. CAM = Cambridgeshire, BDF = Bedfordshire, HUN = Huntingdonshire.
