This database records 53,857 banns of marriage from 74 parishes and other places in the county of Cambridgeshire.

The data records include:

  • Date of marriage.
  • Forenames and surname of groom.
  • Groom's age, condition (single, widowed), occupation and residence, where given.
  • Forenames and surname of bride.
  • Bride's age, condition (single, widowed), occupation and residence, where given.
  • Whether the marriage took place by licence, rather than being preceded publication of banns.
  • Groom's father's name and occupation, when given.
  • Bride's father's name and occupation, when given.
  • Names of up to four witnesses, when given.
  • Any additional notes.
  • Place and County (Chapman code) where marriage took place.

A lower change is made for marriages prior to 1837 to reflect that there is likely to be less information.
