Transcription and conventions used

The Cornwall Burial Index records 265,371 burials from 216 parishes

The data records include:

• Place - Parish or similar e.g. circuit.
• Fiche Ref - not shown
• Entry Number - not shown
• Forenames - some forenames have been standardised.
• Surname
• Abode - not shown - in agreement with Cornwall Record Office
• Aged - age at death
• Date - date of burial
• Alternate surname
• Date estimated

This data is based on that transcribed and input by members of Cornwall FHS worldwide.

The data covers all burials from 1 Jan 1813 to 9 July 1837. Burials prior to 1813 are being added as the project progresses.

Any field which contains a suspect entry has a space and a question mark appended at the end. This indicates uncertainty about the data even after checking with the original, e.g. Thomasoin ?

Coverage

The following parishes are included in the data with entries for both start and end years. Note that there may be gaps in the coverage for a specific parish.

Checking

The data is complete and has undergone final checking for all parishes. There are no known missing entries.

Grouping

There is no grouping of records in this database.

Abbreviations and Codes

Little abbreviation has been used. In the age field the age is in years, but sometimes y or m has been added e.g. 3y6m is 3 years and 6 months. The word 'Inf' in the aged field indicates that an infant has been buried.
